"Our reality is destined to vanish into nothingness. I can do nothing to save you."
Damnation Books has just announced its plans to launch Alberto Büchi's new book,
Frontier Wanderer on the 1st November 2015.
It's not every day you get to work on something as exciting as a fantasy-horror story, so when Alberto contacted us looking for somone to translate his book from Italian to English we couldn't wait to sink our teeth in.
Translating a book is a challenging and lengthy task that requires a lot of care and patience.
Due to the cultural differences between Italy and the UK, we also had to do quite a bit of editing and localisation work, just to make sure the text would be acceptable for the target audience. This is because certain themes and references that the Italians tend to be more relaxed about, don't necessarily go down so well on the international market.
So, after numerous re-reads, edits and tweaks - and with the help of an excellent proofreader - we delivered the job and, within less than six months, Alberto sealed a publishing contract.
This is what the author said about us:
"Translating a novel is a demanding task that’s not for everyone. Passion, expertise and artistic sensitivity are indispensible. With Bastian Contrarian I found all of this."
We absolutely love the silhouette of the character on the cover, as they've made Hansio, the main character, look just like we imagined him when we were working on the book.
Sorry, we're not going to post any spoilers, but you can catch a sneak preview of this eerie, post-apocalyptic tale here.
We're so thrilled to have been a part of it and wish Alberto and Damnation Books every success with the launch. And, we can't wait to get our mitts on a copy!
